Our Story

Angela Robinson

FACT is the acronym for FACE ART CREATIVE TEAM. FACT was founded by Angela Robinson, a licensed esthetician and make-up artist with over 25 years of experience in the beauty industry. After the loss of a family member and two close childhood friends, she started to explore the wider issues for cancer patients and discovered that, self-image and personal grooming is ignored for adults, children and youths with cancer, often because it is too emotionally painful to cope with going to public places to face the perception of pity in the general public’s actions and words.

Angela realized that she could use her experience and contacts to address this issue, albeit on a small scale by providing a range of services in safe environments that are tailored to the needs of individuals. After the first FACT event, Angela also realized that there were many more positive outcomes for people with cancer other than just looking good. The impact of being told that they are beautiful, pampered and being the focus of attention in a positive way rather than a medical object cannot be overstated. Sharing that experience with people with cancer proved to be inspiring and relaxing because they have all had to deal with a changing body image. FACT found that the long term benefits for adults, children and youths with cancer and their families have been continued pride in appearance, greater positivity and improved abilities to cope with cancer.

Children with cancer become isolated. Their ability to play with friends, take part in sports activities, learn, go to parties, have sleepovers, go to sleepovers, go on vacation and more, are greatly reduced, replaced with long schedules of medical appointments and treatments, increased pain, low energy levels, changing physical experience, loss of limbs, hair loss and dealing with receiving information about poor medical test results. Children are unable to articulate their feelings fully and silently watch their parents trying to deal with increased stress and depression as well as coping with their symptoms. They lose access to their friends, or contact is significantly reduced, some are too young to use social media so there is a strong sense of social exclusion.
